Posted on February 08, 2017
Easy, Healthy Dog Cookies On The Grill, are just that; easy. Oh, and healthy. I make delicious treats all the time for sharing with friends and family, and most importantly, you the reader, but I hadn’t made anything for my furry assistant who cleans the floor while I work. This simple recipe is made with wholesome ingredients that you would already have in your kitchen and is even edible if you wanted to try them. They will make your furry friends’ tongues and tails wag.

Skirlie

Skirlie

Savory Scottish Oatmeal

Posted on October 21, 2016
While in Scotland I tried loads of different and wonderful foods including haggis, black pudding, white pudding, mealies and Skirlie. My favorite out of all of them was Skirlie, a Savory Scottish Oatmeal side dish that is usually served with beef – particularily mince and tatties, (think shepherd’s pie). This is probably due to the fact that one of the main ingredients for this recipe is suet, the raw hard fat found on beef and mutton. Don’t let that strange ingredient phase you. Skirlie is incredible. It’s fragrant, and intensely satisfying!

Cranachan

Cranachan

An Oatmeal and Scotch Dessert

Posted on October 21, 2016
Pronounced cran-ah-can, Cranachan is an Oatmeal and Scotch Dessert that’s so much more. I didn’t have the pleasure of trying while I was in Scotland, but I enjoyed learning about it while talking food with the family. What it is, is a concoction of scotch soaked oatmeal, homemade whipped cream, and fresh berries. Think of this recipe like Scottish tiramisu, with a Canadian twist.

Bacon Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Bacon Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

On The Grill

Posted on September 22, 2015
When you slice your newly homemade bacon, you invariably get bits, chunks, slices that aren't pretty, and leavings. You can't just toss these little scraps. That would be offensive. You would be arrested by the Bacon Police for crimes against the bacon! That's where these Bacon Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins come in. I used some of the bacon ends in these delicious breakfast muffins that do more than smell delicious. They're fairly healthy, you can make them gluten free and egg free easily. There is little sugar in these too. Until you add the chocolate chips. But if you're REALLY being health conscious with these bacon-full muffins, craisins are a great addition instead.

Nectarine Crumble

Nectarine Crumble

In A Cast Iron Skillet

Posted on June 09, 2015
Usually my go to comfort dessert is Apple Crisp, but we were out of apples. So I opted to use nectarines instead, and thus Nectarine Crumble In A Cast Iron Skillet was born. This dessert comes together pretty quickly and the end result smells and tastes beautiful. Placing the still steaming fruit onto a bed of fresh vanilla bean ice cream just takes these nectarines to the next level. Now I bet you're wondering, what happens if I have a bad batch of nectarines? Well I actually DID have a bad batch, they weren't juicy, but pasty when they're ripe. If that's the case, this dessert will take these horrible and tasteless fruits and turn them into a dessert fit for kings, and queens, and little princes or princesses.

Flourless Apple Crisp

Flourless Apple Crisp

With Cranberries And Pecans

Posted on April 07, 2015
Flourless Apple Crisp With Cranberries And Pecans is the perfect end to any meal. This recipe is gluten free if you ensure that you have procured certified gluten free oats. And the best part is that you can pretty much put any kind of oats you have in there too, steel cut, quick cooking, whole, you name it. The sweetness of the apples and the tartness of the cranberries is all you need, and this Flourless Apple Crisp makes for a light and tasty end to a good meal. Or you could eat it for breakfast.

Peanut Butter Banana Bread

Peanut Butter Banana Bread

With Oatmeal And Chocolate Chips

Posted on September 16, 2014

Sure, you could celebrate national peanut day with just one thing, and that thing was delicious grilled chicken legs, slathered with  Peanut Butter Barbecue Sauce, but what's the fun in that when you can celebrate with TWO recipes? Basically, I don't like to have a meal without something a little sweet at the end. I have a sweet tooth. It's right beside my garlic tooth and my meat tooth.

This loaf of pure deliciousness is fantastically gluten free and vegan if you can believe it. It's like a granola bar got married to cake and had an oatmeal muffin baby, then sprinkled it with chocolate chips. No seriously guys, it's that good. It makes a filling breakfast, but it's perfect for a relatively guilt free after dinner sweet too.
